Bank holidays are always great for taking pictures

Bank holidays are always great for taking pictures, here are a few ideas to get something different…

1. Challenge your self to NOT say “look at me/the camera”, genuinely watch what your kids are doing and capture that. If they happen to look up that’s fine, but don’t stage anything.

3. Take a picture of a calm everyday moment you wouldn’t normally photograph. It might be your kids on the sofa with their phone/iPad (we like to be in denial of this happening), everyone at the dinner table, bedtime, kids in the bath, sleeping baby, in the car, your home…. Or your partner doing a trivial job in the garden, washing the car…

2. Take a picture of yourself, but not a close up selfie. Choose something you either do often or something you love doing. Ask someone to do it for you or stick your phone in a shoe or a glass and put it on a timer (yes you might feel silly, but you have permission). You can be small in the frame if you like, doing something simple like reading to your kids are bedtime, pottering in your green house, baking, sitting in a chair reading, walking in the woods, holding hands with your child… something no one would ever normally capture for you.

Bad news, because the forecast was so cold and wet I moved my Spring Mini sessions to this coming Saturday instead, the forecast is now much warmer and slightly different location... so the good news is this moving about means I have two afternoon spaces if anyone missed out.

Do you think it’s important we have pictures with our kids individually? Or do you just want the picture with everyone?

If you come for baby pictures, the older sibling might already feel like everything is all about the new baby, so it’s good to ensure we also take their portrait and get them with you.

I think it’s really valuable to have pictures with your kids individually, especially later, your kids may or may not remain best friends at all phases in life, but either way it’s a nice message to send that you value them individually too 😉
